Our ferrets love bedding made by THE FERRET HAMMOCK. Plus, 50% of the profits benefit two local ferret shelters including FerretsFirst.
Before surrendering your ferret(s), think carefully about the effects this will have on a pet that has loved you and become attached to you during your time together. Be aware that older ferrets do not adjust well to change or to the loss of their human. The older the ferret and the longer you have had the ferret, the greater the likelihood is that the ferret will go into owner withdrawal, will become depressed and may die from stress and failure to thrive. Ferrets who are old and those with medical problems are poor adoption candidates and will probably spend the rest of their lives in the ferret rescue.
FerretsFirst accepts surrendered ferrets provided there is space in the shelter and there is documentation of ADV testing and negative status. If FerretsFirst cannot accept your ferret due to space or ADV status, it will be placed on a waiting list and other alternatives to find a home for it will be offered.
To surrender your ferret, please complete the Surrender Form and send or e-mail it to FerretsFirst. Please download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
You will be contacted within several days of receiving the completed form. Ferrets that do not have documentation of ADV negative status must be tested.
There is a fee associated with surrendering the ferret(s) that is determined by the ADV/vaccination status, age, and circumstance of surrender. The maximum fee is $50. The fee enables the rescue to do needed testing, vaccinations and to obtain a veterinarian examination. All ferrets must have their health and behavior assessed to assure they get matched to a forever owner.
